Tree-dwelling Birds

Nature Storyteller > Birds World > Tree-dwelling Birds

There are a number of bird species that are arboreal which means they live on trees. These birds have evolved themselves especially to suit their habitat and are known as passerine birds. These birds are also called perching birds. They have four toes with three in the front and one in the back. This combination helps in clutching the branch of the tree so well that they can face storms and rains by sitting on the branch.

As per Britannica, there are more than 5,700 passerine bird species which is way more than the remaining species which accounts for another 4070 species of other birds. These birds are found in all continents except for Antarctica and a few isolated islands.

The Spruce, a leading online portal, has made it simple for people to understand about birds of the Passerine family. Sparrows, orioles, wrens, warblers, finches, chickadees, thrushes, tits, larks, tanagers, nuthatches, thrashers, jays, etc. all come under this family.

Passerine birds have some of the basic behaviour and features:

  • These are small to medium-sized birds
  • Relatively vocal and songbirds
  • Their off-springs need extensive parenting
  • Unwebbed feet and toes with small talons
  • Mostly diurnal i.e., active during the day

From Nature Storytellers

We believe tree-dwelling birds are some of the most beautiful ones and they have varied sound and calls. At Nature Storyteller, we will try very honestly to showcase their real beauty and share videos of their songs, wherever possible. Some of these birds are among the most caged and trafficked birds. We aim to bring you beautiful habitat shots of these birds so that you can enjoy their beauty on your devices instead of caging them.
